You are looking at an imposing chart of the Norfolk & Western Railroad and its connections. It was taken in 1887.
Map of the eastern US with rivers, towns, and the railroad system. Norfolk Western used extensively to carry coal, and it began as the City Point Rail Road from Petersburg to City Poin. It was merged in 1870 as the Atlantic, Mississippi, and Ohio Railroad. It was sold in 1881. In 1896 it was reorganized as the Norfolk and Western Railway Company.We have compiled this collection of photographs mainly to serve as a vital educational resource.
