Above we show an artistic image of Hydrographic reconnaissance of James River, Virginia, from entrance to City Point / by Com'r W.T. Muse & Lieuts. R. Wainwright & J.N. Maffitt, U.S.N. Assts. Coast Survey from 1854 to '59. It was made in 1862.

Copy 1 is hand col. in blue watercolor to show shallow waters, in red and black inks to show buoys, in pink ink to show "Stn." area outlines, and in black-ink handwriting (printing) to show "Stn." area names.
